Needs Assessment
Through needs assessment surveys, literature searches, advisory board suggestions, and recent specialty publications, ImproMED has identified that a need exists to educate ophthalmologists on recent advances in glaucoma treatment. Specifically, recently published results from the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study show that treatment is effective in delaying or preventing glaucomatous optic disc and/or visual field loss. These results provide evidence to support reconsideration of current glaucoma treatment practices.

Target Audience
This activity is intended for general ophthalmologists and those with a subspecialty in Glaucoma.

Overall Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to expand dissemination of the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study results to date and to help participants understand the practical implications of the study.

Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this CME activity, participants should have increased overall skills, knowledge, attitudes, and performance, with a specific ability to:

Skill(s)
Develop appropriate treatment plans for patients with ocular hypertension at moderate to high risk of glaucoma, considering risk:benefit ratios of therapy

Knowledge
Identify baseline demographic and clinical factors that help predict which patients are likely to develop primary open-angle glaucoma

Attitude(s)
Recognize the value of measuring corneal thickness in all patients with ocular hypertension or glaucoma

Performance
Translate key messages of the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study into practical applications to improve patient health outcomes.

Designation of Credit Statement
ImproMED designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.0 category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she actually spent in the activity.

Disclosure Policy
It is the policy of ImproMED to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all its sponsored educational activities. All faculty are expected to disclose to program audiences any significant relationships related to the content of their presentations.
